Dr Nguyen Phuong Thao obtained her Master and PhD degrees in Biology from Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Returned back to home country in 2008, she started her career as a lecturer at School of Biotechnology of International University, Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC). From 2021, she was assigned to be Director of Research Center for Infectious Diseases of VNU-HCMC.
Dr Thao’s research programs broadly focus on molecular biotechnology, genetic engineering and signal transduction of cell. She is interested in studies of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants including identification of active compounds and characterization of their beneficial effects on disease treatment and health support, serving for development of pharmaceutical products. Dr Thao has published many research on top Journals with total citation from 2017 over 800.
Dr Thao also joined other scientific communities as a consultant for Croplife International, review editor in Plant abiotic stress board for Frontiers in Plant science, academic editor for Journal of Biotechnology and a member of ASEAN University Network in Biology. Notably, Dr Thao was an honor member of Editorial board of Information about Covid-19 website, VNU-HCMC in 2020. Dr Thao was an honor member of team of consultants on Covid-19 treatment of Ho Chi Minh city. She was awarded for Outstanding publication from Vietnam National University in 2012 and 2015; Notable women in Science and Technology from People ‘s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in 2016, Notable Women of Vietnam from Vietnam women ‘s union in 2017 and Notable teachers of Ho Chi Minh city from People ‘s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in 2017.
